Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ of Nazareth was born of a virgin mother in a manger in Bethlehem (Isaiah 7:14, KJV). We celebrate Christmas commemorating His birth, but I submit to you Jesus is far more than an event in history that we celebrate annually. Jesus Christ is, by far, the most acclaimed and influential human who ever lived on our planet and is SO unique to the degree that no one could ever live up to Him.

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World

Other than the fact that he lived a blameless (sinless) life, His brief tenure on our planet was the most profound. His superior moral teaching dismantled the laws of the self-righteous religious leaders and presented the grace of God to an unbelieving world.

What makes Jesus so Special?

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 (NIV)

Jesus Christ is God

The predominant theme of the Scriptures pointed to many facets, but particularly highlighted His works and the fact that He is(was) God in the flesh. What makes Jesus so special is He became a human being, died a gruesome death by crucifixion, and buried. On the 3rd day, Jesus rose from the dead and dwelled on the Earth for an additional 40 days, where he continued his Earthly ministry. Jesus ultimately ascended into Heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father (God) where. He is the only, all-sufficient Savior of the world, who will come again (Acts 1:11; Hebrews 10:37; John 14:3).

What was the significance of Jesus' death and resurrection?

1. The meaning of His death fulfilled the ultimate sacrifice required to achieve the level of holiness required by God that man alone was incapable of achieving. From the beginning of humanity, man is the object of God's wrath because of our rebellion and nature to sin. God is a God of mercy and grace took the initiative in satisfying His wrath by sending His one and only Son to die for our sins. [1]

· It was a ransom for the sin of man (Matthew 20:28; Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 1:18).

· It was to pay the penalty for sin (Romans 3:24; 1 John 2:2; 4:10).

· It is a reconciliation (Romans 5:10), and restored to God (2 Corinthians 5:18, 19).

· It is a substitution: He died in our place (1 Peter 3:18; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

· In summary, the matter of sin has been resolved (1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 9:26; Hebrews 10:12).[2]

2. Resurrected from the dead: This is unique and fundamental to Christianity.

"The resurrection amounts to the Father's clear signal that Jesus is the powerful Son of God who has conquered death and reigns as Lord of all (Romans 1:4; 4:25). The resurrection demonstrates that Jesus' "blood of the new covenant" saves His people from their sins."[3]

The Results of Jesus Death

Jesus Christ accomplished the works of His Father, and as a result, he is our:

· Advocate

"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One." ... But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous." (1 John 2:1, NIV)

· Savior

Only through Jesus, we are saved and made right before God.

"Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins" (Acts 5:31, KJV).

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12, NIV).

"9 If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10, NIV).

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9, ESV)"

What does Jesus' Death Save me from?

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ results in eternal life with God for those who believe in Him (Jesus).

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”( John 3:36, ESV)

“Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." ( John 3:3, ESV)
