About Me | Travel, Lifestyle & Finances Blog

Me and the Devil have been at odds since 1982.

It was a brisk Easter Sunday morning on April 11th, 1982, in Brooklyn, New York. On that day, a woman was giving birth to a fantastic human being who would be one of the many who would make it a mission to be remarkable. Her name was Jennifer! No, that is not my name, but it was the most popular name on April 11th, 1982, that was given to 57,115 baby girls.LOL.

My name is Natalie, and yes, I am a mess, and I make it my point to point you to Jesus and gladly have dubbed myself, Satan’s most hated Christian (since I started Shaming the Devil since 1982), well not totally, but that is when I made my debut on this planet (Earth).

My Story of Epic Dysfunction (1982-2000ish)

I was born to Haitian immigrants and raised by perfectly imperfect people in an environment of epic dysfunction. I was a mad lass because, in my heart of hearts, I knew that there was more to life than this. From that moment of realization (circa 1989-ish), I made it a point to talk to this imaginary figure named God. God was a cool cat and helped me navigate the abuse and dysfunction relatively well.

He would guide me and encourage me in ways no human ever did. He would point me in the right direction and kept me out of trouble. At 16, God introduced me to his son Jesus. I ran for the hills! He scared me, just the thought of His awesomeness had me running! Little did I know that years later, He would become my best friend!

The Hotmess (2000-2005 ish)

God got me through a turbulent and dysfunctional childhood with my mental health intact (-ish). I graduated from high school in 2000 with a 4.1 GPA, and headed off to college as far away as I could! I wound up at Florida State University. There I met this fine lad (Mr. Carter), and he started talking about this man named Jesus. In my head, I said, “Him again?” I saw how important Jesus was to Marcus’ life, and if I wanted to marry well (Mr. Carter had potential), I would have to befriend this man, I ran from at the age of 16. I knew of His awesomeness, but was clueless (since I grew up Catholic and didn’t pay much attention). Little did I realize that this Jesus cat, like His Father (God), wasn’t too bad. Around 2004ish, I committed to accept Jesus and roll with Him.

The Interesting Plot Twist (2005-2010)

In 2005 I married Mr. Carter at the ripe old age of 23, and we started our lives together. I was a Registered Nurse, and he was in his final year of law school ( I told you earlier, he had potential). We went to church and me being the “good” Christian gal that I pretended to be, I went to bible studies and all things Christian.

In doing all things Christian, I truly began to slowly remember how God impacted my life and how He introduced me to his son Jesus. Things started getting weird; I was not as mean or bitter. I wanted to learn more and teach others; it was crazy! Then in 2009, I push out kid number 1, Camden. God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice all came together and hit me in the face like a ton of watermelons. From that moment on, I dedicated myself, heart, soul, and mind to becoming all that God has called me to be, and teach the world about Jesus.

The Saga Continues 2010- present

Since then, I have had two more kids and a fur baby. I continue to follow Jesus to the best of my ability imperfectly, and was called to begin this blog Contemporary Mochanista, a Faith, Travel, Lifestyle, and finance blog to help teach people how to live their best lives for God.

The Perfectly Imperfect Mission

Over the past 16ish years of Ministry and sheer imperfection, I was able to help teach thousands of women and share my story of struggle and faith. My core values include, Loving God, Pointing others to Christ, Family, Adventure through our shenanigans when we travel, and being bougie on a budget, while living my best life.

I want to help you live this life imperfectly and free from the perceptions that hold Christian women in bondage. I want to help you embody the fruit of the spirit with authenticity and grace. I want to help get you off the hamster wheel of shame, doubt, and guilt while pointing you to the ONE who took the sins of the world so we could be made right before God.
